Notion's Newest View 👀

you can now scroll through Notion like a blog

Hey — it’s James

I’ve been back in my hometown for a week now, and this place is so full of memories and feelings that it takes a little time to adjust and settle into a rhythm that fits here. Among all the changes, one feeling keeps resurfacing: several times a day, I’m struck by a sense of what real life is.

It’s as if I’ve been living in a bubble for the past nine months—and honestly, I think that’s partly true. Real life—in this case, my case—means the kind of life…

3 Tips / Updates

1/ New View type

There’s a new view in town — and I’m pumped.

Notion just dropped the Feed view, and it opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

So, what is Feed view?

It’s a vertically scrollable layout that shows a large content preview beneath each page title. See how I’m already using it for my other newsletter, Make With James

You scroll to navigate, and you’ve got two options for diving deeper:

→ Click the black ↓ See more button to expand the preview

→ Or click the page title to open it fully.

You can also display properties, which will appear horizontally in your specified order. Simply access property visibility in the database settings, just as you would with other view types.

In the layout settings, you can:

  • Show or hide the page icon

  • Show or hide the author byline

  • Choose how pages open (center peek, side peek, or full page)

  • Set how many items to display

The most obvious use case is a blog. But I'm excited to see all the creative, unexpected ways people will use it 😉

2/ Manage any database in Calendar

You can now manage any Notion database in Notion Calendar, as long as they have a Date property. Previously, we needed a calendar view, but now it works from any view type.

Click any view → Manage in Calendar

A lot of changes are about to happen to Notion Calendar—so stay tuned 👀

3/ Inline tasks in Notion?

Ok so this is neither a real update nor a tip, but I really liked that idea posted on Notion's subreddit: what if we could add inline (in-page) tasks (using /task shortcut) that could sync to a Tasks database?

Love that idea, although I'm unsure if it's technically possible 😅

2 Resources

1/ Create Forms in Notion

There are numerous ways to create forms from/to a Notion database—but since Notion built their own form builder, there's no easier option than to use their native solution.

So whether you want to:

  • Create a form from scratch or from an existing database

  • Sync answers to a database

  • Customize your form

  • Share and preview your form

  • Automate your form

I have written an in-depth blog post that will answer all your questions ↓

2/ Personal CRM (that auto-updates)

Clay is a personal CRM tool that gathers all your contacts from Gmail, Apple Contacts, WhatsApp, and your other tools—which you can then sync to Notion to create your own personal CRM database.

It's perfect to sync with the Contacts database in my Second Brain Notion template, for instance 😎

It's free for up to 1000 contacts—so you have no excuse not to start managing relationships in Notion!
